The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph across six districts in West Bengal, including Birbhum, Nadia, Murshidabad, North and South 24 Parganas, and East Midnapore. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in specific areas of Murshidabad and East Midnapore, with weather experts predicting thunderstorms of slightly lesser intensity in other South Bengal districts. The forecast attributes the prevailing weather conditions to synoptic factors such as a cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
As per the IMD's warning, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected to persist until next week in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. The weather report highlights the presence of an east-west trough and a cyclonic circulation over north Bihar, influencing weather patterns across West Bengal. In districts like Bankura, Sriniketan, Burdwan, Asansol, Barrackpore, Jhargram, and Krishnanagar, temperatures remained around 32-33 degrees Celsius on Friday, while Kalaikunda recorded the highest temperature at 37 degrees Celsius.
